History:
AM 1020 first began broadcasting as WMMJ in 1946, which went off the air in 1949 due to financial problems.  The station went back on the air in August, 1950 as WPEO.

In 1956 WPEO became one of the state's first Top-40 music stations and in 1960 WPEO changed to a Country format.

WPEO began Christian broadcasting in 1970.  It was purchased by the Pinebrook Foundation, Inc. and in 2012 Pinebrook Foundation sold WPEO to WPEO Radio Foundation, Inc., a non-profit corporation. 

WPEO Radio Foundation was granted a construction permit on January 6th, 2015 for FM translator W249CZ on 97.7 licensed to Peoria.  On June 8th WPEO began simulcasting WPEO AM on FM translator W249CZ - 97.7, 24 hours a day. 
On March 10th, 2016 The FCC granted a construction permit for our second FM translator W280FA on 103.9 licensed to Peoria.  W280FA began simulcasting WPEO AM on May 31st, 2016, 24 hours a day.

On October 1st, 2020 WPEO Radio Foundation began simulcasting WPEO AM
24 hours a day on WEXG-FM 98.3
licensed to Farmer City which is now WPEO-FM.

Programming:
THE WORD-WPEO is a program oriented, commercial Christian station. It includes Bible teaching, Christian news, talk, public affairs, news/information and music. WPEO is Central Illinois' first Christian Radio station.  We are recognized for "quality" Christian programming.

WPEO operates as a daytime station on 1020 kilohertz (clear channel)
with a power of 1000 watts, Class: D Commercial
WPEO also operates two FM translators W249CZ on 97.7 at 250 watts and
W280FA on 103.9 at 250 watts,  24 hours a day.
