Eyes UP!

Your eyes are a window for your body. When they are good, you have all the light you need.  But when your eyes are bad, everything is dark.  If the light inside you is dark, you surely are in the dark.  Matthew 6:22, 23 (CEV)

Jesus’ audience for the verses above were familiar with financial pressures, governmental pressures, religious pressures and the pressures of everyday life.  Not much has changed has it, except maybe the rate at which these things come at us.  Jesus knew how easy it is for people to become distracted and discouraged by the pressures of life.  He also knew the antidote.  He told his followers (in a first century way) that fixing their eyes (affections) on heaven would fill their life with light, transforming the way they see the world and live in it.  Jesus’ words confirm many other passages in the Bible that tell us to fix our minds (eyes) on the things of God if we want the peace of God in our lives.

The things of God are found in the Word of God, the Bible.  So before the worries of another day get us too far down, let’s spend some time in God’s Word.  It’s the best way to keep our eyes up.
